Dr. Raja Balraj Singh

Calgary

Balraj started an online interfaith program during the pandemic, in 2020, to safely allow an interactive dialogue among people of different faiths. Supported by family and friends, the program endeavours to create awareness about the Sikh faith and the message of universal brotherhood enshrined in the Sikh holy book, Aad Guru Granth Sahib. A medical graduate, he earned his Ph.D. in Cardiovascular Sciences from the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg, Canada) and has followed his passion in translational research and entrepreneurship. Balraj is the Director of the Alberta Prostate Cancer Research Initiative with the University of Alberta. 

Mrs. Gurdish Kaur Grewal

Calgary

A famous literary personality, she is a writer, critic, and poet. Her social and religious articles and poems are published all over the world in various newspapers, magazines, and books to enlighten society. She is the Secretary of Vishav Punjabi Kavi Sabha and General Secretary of Calgary Women Cultural Association. She has seven published books to her credit – four of poetry and three of prose, one dedicated solely to religious poetry. She has been honored by various social, religious, and cultural associations in India and abroad. She has been honored twice by the Members of Parliament on behalf of the Federal Government of Canada for her literary contributions. In 2019, She was conferred the ‘Bhai Veer Singh ji’ Award by Des Panjab Times Calgary.

Prof. Maninder Singh

Edmonton

M.A. in Religious studies from Punjabi University Patiala (1971) he served as a lecturer in Guru Nanak College Dhanbad. Started missionary work amongst Sikh students with Gurmat Classes, Camps, and Seminars in Jharkhand, Bihar, Bengal, and Orissa (India). Went to Malaysia and Singapore as a Sikh preacher. Migrated to Canada in 1998 and served Sikh Society Calgary and Khalsa School, Edmonton as a Punjabi teacher. Edited a Punjabi magazine “Jot te Jugat” and books for students (published by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle Ludhiana). Wrote 4 books online (in poetry and prose) for children. Dr. Kabal Singh

Edmonton

Dr. Kabal Singh obtained his B. Sc. from Khalsa College, Amritsar, followed by M. Sc. and Ph.D. from Panjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He was Head of Department, Technical Advisor, and  Dean of Colleges in India, Zambia, and Canada. Dr. Singh studied Sri Guru Granth Sahib and started writing about contemporary issues in light of Gurbani. He established a strong rapport with the Sangat through his lectures and  Zoom presentations.

Dr. Baldev Singh

Edmonton

With an MSc from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) and Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, Baldev worked as a Professor at PAU for over 20 years, researching soil, water, crop, and environment management technologies. He was awarded Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship for Ph.D. studies and I.C.A.R. Team Research Award for Efficient Resource Management. He has worked with U of A, Alberta Environment, and consulting companies. Besides science, his interests include studying the decline in Sikh religious, social, and cultural values, and efforts to improve them.

S. Jagbir Singh Kohli

Calgary

Jagbir Singh has done graduation in Mechanical Engineering from India. For over two decades he has been working in “Loss Prevention in the industry” as a supervisor. He is deeply interested in Sikh history, especially in different distinguished figures of Sikhism and warriors who shaped the Sikhs of today. This has led him to collaborate with individuals like Dr. Raja Balraj Singh, and other organizers of an E-Diwaan (on Zoom) running for about two years now. He is glad that the pandemic led him to an excellent opportunity to share his ideas with others and learn about works of literature in Sikhism.

S. Paramjit Singh

Toronto

Paramjit Singh is a person deeply in love with Indian music but completely dedicated to Gurmat Sangeet (since 1993), which is the recitation of divine hymns composed by Sikh Gurus and Bhagats (also called Gurbani).  Apart from performing Gurbani kirtan at the Darbar Sahib, he has performed at Delhi, Patna Sahib, and  Calcutta.

Dr. Manmohan Kaur Katyal

Calgary

After her Ph.D. in Mathematics, Dr. Katyal taught in two Colleges in New Delhi.  She also served as the Principal of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Khalsa College, University of Delhi. Dr. Katyal is also actively associated with ASRA (Action for Self Reliance and Alternatives) – an NGO which works for the disabled and the marginalized from Delhi’s slums. She is a member of NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council, of the Government of India) which checks the Quality of Higher Educational Institutions in the country. A devoted Sikh, Dr. Kaur and has extensive knowledge of Sikh history, Gurbani, and the Sikh philosophy.

Dr. Rajbir Singh Bhatti

Calgary

Rajbir is passionate about supporting community initiatives, especially around language and culture. An engineering graduate, he earned his Ph.D. in supply chain optimization from IIT Roorkee and is currently an Associate Professor at Mount Royal University. His website is rajbirbhatti.ca

Dr. Surjit Singh Bhatti

Calgary

Dr. Singh worked as Professor, Head, and Dean (Faculty of Sciences) at the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar (India). Surjit visited Italy, England, the US, and Hong Kong for advanced training and/or presentations of his research work. He has published more than 100 research papers in peer-reviewed, indexed international research journals and has also published three books. At present, he is working for the propagation of the Panjabi language, culture, and heritage through different media. His website is www.drssbhatti.ca

Dr. Kala Singh

A medical graduate from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, with a passion for Sikh Spirituality and Mental Health Counselling. He has published his work in a medical journal “Spirituality and Health International” and in a book “Gurmat Doctrines” (Part1) – available on Amazon.com. Dr. Singh has been awarded the Pravasi Rattan award at the Global Convention of Non-Resident Indians in the British Parliament and is an Executive Member (Secretary) of the Multi-Faith Summit Council of British Columbia (Canada).

Dr. D. P. Singh

Calgary

A scientist, teacher, and writer of repute, Dr. Singh has written extensively on environmental problems as well as on Sikh spirituality. Dr. D.P. Singh has published 24 books, more than a thousand articles and short stories, 26 book chapters, and 25 book reviews. He is also the Honourary Director of the Center for Understanding Sikhism at Mississauga (Ontario)

Dr. Jagjit Singh

Dr. Jagjit Singh earned his Ph.D. in Groundwater Engineering from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. He also served as a Professor in the Soil and Water Engineering Department for 5 years. Dr. Singh has worked on many projects in Mathematical Modelling and Information Technology. He moved to Los Angeles in 1999 and worked on Applied Mathematics and Algorithm Writing, and then moved again to Vancouver, Canada in 2018. He has written numerous papers and delivered seminars on Environment, Water Conservation, Human Rights, Nature, and Sikhism.

Dr. Devinder Singh Sekhon

Calgary

Dr. Singh did his M.Sc. in chemistry from Kurukshetra University (India) in 1965, taught for seven years at various colleges in Punjab, including Khalsa College Amritsar. He came to California in 1972 to do a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Educational Administration and retired as Professor in 2009. He has written 9 books in English and Punjabi on Sikh religion and scores of articles in journals and presented dozens of papers at various conferences and seminars.
